MHS Tiny House
Welcome to the 17-18 School Year
About
The Scupper is a project for science, architecture and woodshop classes at Marblehead High School, funded by the generosity of the Friends of Marblehead Public Schools. There is a new movement in architecture called “Tiny House”. Tiny dwellings, between 100 and 200 square feet, are designed and built, often on trailers, as fully functional sustainable dwellings. Some of these buildings have been made by children as young as 12 years old and high schools around the country are starting these as projects. The tiny house project at MHS is a series of 3 classes, The Science and Engineering of Tiny Houses, The Architecture of Tiny Houses and Building the Tiny House. When students take all three during their high school careers, they receive honors credit.
Once built, the tiny house will be resold to fund next years class. Follow updates on the blog. With special thanks to the Friends of Marblehead Public Schools, Marblehead PCO, Gilbert and Cole, The Portland Group, Walter Jacobs Architect, and Crown Property Management.
